Associate – Health Law Practice in Melbourne

About the role

HWLE is seeking an Associate to join its Health practice group in Melbourne. You will work alongside senior partners providing legal advice to leading medical defence insurers and their clients.

Key responsibilities

• End‑to‑end management of medical indemnity claims and investigations.
• Provide timely, accurate written advice to insurers and insured parties.
• Appear at mediations, witness interviews, inquests and disciplinary hearings.
• Directly market and engage new client relationships.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years post‑admission experience (PAE) or demonstrated passion for medical indemnity, health or ancillary personal injury claims.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to engage insurers, corporate counsel, medical practitioners and courts.
• Leadership capability to mentor and develop junior lawyers.

Required skills

• Legal advice and claim management in medical indemnity matters.
• Experience with mediations, hearings and client liaison.
