Associate Engineer - Water Resources

About the role
SMEC is looking for an Associate Water Resources Engineer to join its Water Resources team in Sydney. You will work primarily on New South Wales projects while also supporting the broader ANZ business, contributing to flood risk, waterway, urban and rural‑irrigation management initiatives.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct technical assessments and design for water resource management projects.
- Perform peer reviews to ensure compliance with client and SMEC standards.
- Mentor and review the work of junior engineers.
- Collaborate with team members, clients and stakeholders to deliver high‑quality, timely project outputs.
- Apply project management principles to meet deliverables on schedule.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
- Minimum 10 + years experience in water resources management or design.
- Experience in an engineering design consultancy and a track record of delivering successful projects.
- Familiarity with relevant Australian Standards.
- Ability to lead projects and contribute to business development.
- Working towards or holding CPEng status.
