Associate Engineer – Materials Technology

About the role

SMEC is seeking an experienced Materials Engineer to join its Materials Technology team in Queensland. The role will support a diverse portfolio of infrastructure projects across water, transport, ports and maritime sectors, delivering durability and condition‑assessment expertise.

Key responsibilities

• Provide materials and durability engineering services across SMEC’s Queensland operations.
• Conduct condition assessments and diagnostic testing of reinforced concrete, steel and timber structures.
• Prepare high‑quality inspection reports and repair specifications.
• Support asset remediation, structural assessment and materials engineering design.
• Deliver contract administration and site supervision on remedial projects.
• Mentor junior team members and build strong client relationships.
• Assist in the preparation of EOIs and proposals to secure new work.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Materials, Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
• RPEQ registration or ability to obtain it.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in materials performance, durability planning and condition assessment.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
• Strong interpersonal skills and experience contributing to business development.
