Associate Director – Mechanical Engineering (Buildings)

About the role

Associate Director – Mechanical Engineering (Buildings) will lead and grow AECOM's Building Services team in Sydney, delivering complex, multi‑disciplinary projects across sectors such as health, defence, transport, commercial, aviation and data‑centres.

Key responsibilities

• Lead delivery of complex building services projects, overseeing mechanical design and coordination with electrical, fire protection and hydraulics disciplines.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships to support business development and secure future work.
• Provide technical leadership, reviewing calculations, specifications, models and drawings to ensure best‑practice documentation.
• Mentor junior and intermediate engineers, fostering their technical development.
• Leverage local networks to strengthen AECOM’s presence in NSW and grow the Sydney team.

Required profile

• 15+ years’ experience in building services consultancy or contracting design with a strong mechanical engineering background.
• Chartered status (CPEng) required; other registrations valued.
• Proven leadership in technical design and multi‑disciplinary project delivery.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and lead bids.
• Experience across sectors such as data centres, commercial, aviation, defence or broader building markets.
