Assistant Accountant – Insurance Broking Finance

About the role

Join Howden’s rapidly growing insurance broking finance team as an Assistant Accountant. You will support the financial management of the Howden Equine division, handling ledgers, reconciliations and trust accounts within the broking platform.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain IBA ledgers and perform all IBA functions across broking platforms.
• Reconcile insurance debtor and creditor accounts, client ledgers, and insurer/underwriter accounts.
• Manage trust bank accounts, investigate reconciling items, and process receipts, payments, refunds and claims.
• Validate client and insurer bank details, rates and calculations, and assist with insurance duty, ESL and NRIT returns.
• Support the wider Finance team with journals, balance‑sheet reconciliations and variance analysis.

Required profile

• Accounting qualification or related study.
• 2+ years’ experience as an Assistant Accountant or in a similar accounting role.
• Knowledge of tax regimes such as GST, insurance duty and non‑resident withholding tax is preferred.
• Strong attention to detail, methodical approach to reconciliations and sound judgement.
