APS6 Senior Investigator (Sydney & Melbourne)

About the role

The agency is seeking an APS6 Senior Investigator for a 12‑month temporary position, with the possibility of extension. The role supports the Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) in both Sydney and Melbourne, handling complex investigations and court representation.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and plan cases, conduct interviews, and prepare statements, affidavits and evidential material.
• Prepare briefs for referral to the Australian Federal Police and Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions.
• Provide evidence in criminal or civil court on behalf of the DVA.
• Analyse information to produce detailed reports and undertake related administrative and project work.
• Engage with DVA staff, partner agencies, veterans, providers and third parties through formal and informal discussions.
• Support out‑of‑office investigative activities, which may involve domestic air travel and overnight stays.

Required profile

• Australian citizenship and ability to obtain Negative Vetting One security clearance and a national police check.
• More than five years of relevant experience handling high‑volume, complex investigations.
• Certificate IV in Government Investigations or equivalent, applied in line with DVA processes and Australian Government Investigation Standards.
• Strong written and verbal communication, sound judgement and discretion with sensitive information.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite.
