APS6 Policy Officer - Cost Recovery Program

About the role

A large Commonwealth Government department, represented by a recruitment consultant, is seeking an APS6 Policy Officer for an initial 6-month contract with possible extension for 12 more months. The role sits in a small policy team within a branch that administers a national regulatory program, focusing on cost recovery arrangements and how the program's effectiveness is measured. It is open to candidates based anywhere in Australia.

Key responsibilities

• Lead policy analysis and advice to implement audit recommendations, reporting to the Assistant Director
• Review the program's cost recovery arrangements, including fees, charging models, regulatory requirements and stakeholder impacts against government cost recovery policy
• Contribute to developing, monitoring and evaluating performance measures of the program's effectiveness and outcomes
• Research and synthesize information to prepare briefs, submissions, discussion papers, reports and correspondence for senior executives and decision-makers
• Coordinate consultation with corporate areas, portfolio agencies, state and territory representatives and industry stakeholders
• Identify policy, operational and reputational risks and help develop mitigation strategies
• Provide compliant recommendations on policy issues

Required profile

• Experienced policy officer comfortable with technical and financial information
• Ability to work with limited supervision and collaborate across teams
• Current Baseline security clearance
• Desirable: experience with cost recovery, fee reviews or performance measurement in a regulatory environment

What we offer

• Pay of $70-$80 per hour plus superannuation
