Apprenticeship – Substations Electrical Trade (2027)

About the role

This four‑year apprenticeship is based in Brisbane and focuses on maintaining Powerlink’s high‑voltage substations across Queensland. You will receive hands‑on field training, industry‑leading supervision and nationally recognised qualifications while working on a 9‑day roster.

Key responsibilities

• Install, test, maintain and repair high‑voltage electrical systems, plant and equipment at substations.
• Travel to regional and remote sites across Queensland as required.
• Work on a 9‑day fortnight roster, including occasional overtime and time away from home.
• Perform work at heights up to 15 metres under strict safety protocols.

Required profile

• Practical, hands‑on attitude with a focus on safety.
• Willingness to travel and work outdoors in live HV environments.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a skilled crew.
• Commitment to completing a Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician.

Required skills

• High‑voltage electrical systems knowledge.
• Substation installation and maintenance.
• Electrical testing and troubleshooting.
• Working at heights procedures.
• Electrical safety practices.
