Application Developer

About the role

Halaxy, a healthcare software company operating in 100 countries, is hiring an Application Developer. You will build and maintain the features that 45,000+ practitioners use daily to run their practices, working within the company's established architecture and patterns. You will take ownership of well-defined pieces of work, test your own code thoroughly and collaborate with fellow developers, the Testing and Product teams, and the wider agile organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Complete development tasks within the platform's patterns and architecture, using AI tools to explore the codebase and build similar functionality
• Write efficient, secure, maintainable PHP code following engineering standards, and contribute to front-end functionality with JavaScript, jQuery, AJAX, TypeScript, Angular and HTML/CSS
• Write and optimise queries and work within existing database schemas and data models across MySQL
• Investigate and fix application, code and performance issues, and apply secure coding practice for practitioner and patient data
• Deliver enhancements and bug fixes, and test your own work before it moves on
• Follow the development workflow, including planning, estimation, weekly goals and risk communication, and use approved AI tools responsibly
• Share learnings, guide new starters, write clear documentation and work with Product, UI/UX, Testing, DevOps and Service teams

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
• Typically 3+ years of application development experience in a technology or SaaS environment
• Experience with PHP and modern PHP frameworks (Symfony / Laravel)
• Knowledge of front-end technologies, especially JavaScript, with exposure to HTML/CSS
• Hands-on experience with relational databases and SQL
• Experience using AI coding assistants in day-to-day development

• Tools: PHPStorm, DataGrip, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, GitHub, ZenHub, Docker, Cypress, AWS (EC2, ECS, RDS, S3, Lambda, SQS/SNS, Bedrock)
• Monitoring: Datadog, Sentry, Logz.io, New Relic
• Strong logical thinking, problem-solving, organisational skills and teamwork
