Application Developer – Early Career (Hybrid, Canberra)

About the role

Profectus is seeking early‑career Application Developers to join upcoming Australian Government projects. The role offers a hybrid work model, primarily onsite in Canberra with occasional remote days, and provides a supportive environment to build core software development skills.

Key responsibilities

• Design, code, test, document, amend and refactor simple programs and scripts following defined procedures.
• Apply agreed development standards and tools, debug and fix straightforward defects.
• Conduct basic testing, record results and re‑run tests after fixes.
• Assist with deployments by following runbooks and resolving simple issues.
• Review own work, correct errors and escalate issues that cannot be resolved independently.
• Collaborate within the delivery team across the software development lifecycle.

Required profile

• Hands‑on software development experience or a relevant qualification in languages such as Java, Python.NET (C#) or JavaScript.
• Understanding of software development standards, version control and basic testing practices.
• Willingness to follow defined procedures and work under guidance.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach.
• Australian citizenship with at least Baseline security clearance; prior Australian Government experience is a plus.
