Analyst, Investment Appraisal

About the role

The Analyst, Investment Appraisal will join the Investment Appraisal team within the Economics and Analysis branch of Investment NSW. You will use economic and analytical expertise to shape major government investment decisions through cost‑benefit analysis, business cases and policy evaluation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop business cases, cost‑benefit analyses, economic appraisals and evaluation frameworks for major government programs and projects.
• Analyse complex economic and financial information, build robust Excel‑based models and provide clear, evidence‑based advice to decision‑makers.
• Collaborate with experienced economists and analysts on high‑profile projects, taking ownership of deliverables within small project teams.

Required profile

• Experience in economics, cost‑benefit analysis, business cases, program evaluation or policy analysis, preferably in government or consulting.
• Proactive, able to work autonomously and contribute effectively within small teams.
• Strong written communication skills to translate complex analysis into plain English for non‑technical audiences.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel skills for financial, economic or quantitative modelling.
