AI Engineer - AI Solutions Lead
Orion Group · Sydney
Job description
About the role
Orion Group, a multi-disciplinary land development company with five offices across NSW and Queensland, is building a structured AI function to improve productivity, reduce project administration and give clients clearer, more consistent transparency. It is looking for a mid-senior AI Engineer / AI Solutions Lead to design and deliver AI solutions across the business, based in the Norwest office or Sydney CBD.
Key responsibilities
- Design and develop AI-enabled solutions that improve productivity and reduce manual administration, including building, testing and refining prompts and workflows for tools such as Microsoft Copilot.
- Assess existing platforms, automation tools or software before proposing custom solutions, and develop prototypes and pilots before supporting wider rollout.
- Partner with AI Champions in each Business Unit, analyse workflows, systems and data flows, and propose practical, scalable solutions.
- Support deployment of AI tools, integrate them into existing systems where appropriate, and define and track metrics such as time saved, accuracy, adoption and operational impact.
- Support training and adoption, develop guidance, templates and best-practice standards, and contribute to AI-enabled client reporting, dashboards and automated updates.
- Work within governance frameworks covering data privacy, security and AI risk, and support ethical, compliant use of AI.
- As the role grows, it may include ownership of the AI roadmap, leadership of the AI Champions network and oversight of AI governance and standards.
Required profile
- Experience in applied AI, prompt engineering, automation or AI-enabled solution design.
- Experience working across business functions to design and implement operational solutions.
- Ability to translate business problems into practical solutions, prototype and iterate in live environments, and map workflows to find inefficiencies.
- Strong communication skills to explain AI concepts to non-technical stakeholders, and a sense of responsibility for data security and ethical AI use.
Required skills
- Hands-on exposure to Microsoft Copilot, Power Platform or similar productivity-focused AI tools.
- Coding and software development experience valued.
What we offer
- Professional development, mentoring and coaching, plus annual performance appraisals and learning plans.
- A range of flexible work options and access to innovative technology.
- Employee assistance program, paid parental leave and regular team-building and social activities.
