Advanced Graduate Program - Regional School Teaching

About the role

The Advanced Graduate Program (AGP) is for recent graduates or Initial Teacher Education (ITE) students who finished their studies within six months of the closing date, or who are in their final semester at a Western Australian university. Successful applicants gain AGP status, which identifies them as high-performing graduates when applying for teaching jobs in the Department of Education and is valid for 12 months after graduation. This is not an employment pool.

Required profile

• Completed ITE studies at a WA university in the last 6 months, or in the final semester of such a qualification.
• Very high standard in the most recent professional experience placement.
• University coursework completed to a high standard.
• Ready to work in a regional public school.

Applications are made online through the JobsWA system; the program uses regular intakes, with the current one open until close of business on Friday 20 November 2026. The process is two stages: first, evidence of academic and placement achievement, two referees (one the school-based supervisor) and a 500-word written response describing a time a behaviour management strategy was used to re-engage a class; then a one-way video interview on the Vieple platform.

What we offer

• Higher starting salary and additional rent subsidies for AGP holders in regional schools.
• Permanency after 2 continuous years of service in one or more regional public schools, with a guaranteed transfer to an education region of choice after 24 months.
• Countryside allowances of $5,000 to $13,730 a year, a graduate teacher allowance of up to $2,000 a year for the first two years, and 12% employer superannuation contributions.
• 12 weeks of vacation leave, more than 20 days of other leave, and subsidised or free accommodation where applicable.
• An extra funded return trip to Perth each year and government housing in the second year, for those taking a position of at least 6 months at 0.8FTE or more.
