Accountant / Senior Bookkeeper – Project Finance

About the role

We are seeking an experienced accountant or senior bookkeeper to join the Cairncross Dockyard project in Morningside, Brisbane. You will be the primary finance resource during the establishment phase, providing day‑to‑day record keeping and financial visibility for a major maritime infrastructure project.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain the organisation's accounting system, processing transactions within the established chart of accounts, cost centres and project structures.
• Process accounts payable (invoice coding, approvals, supplier payments) and accounts receivable (invoicing, receipting, debtor follow‑up).
• Run payroll and manage related compliance, including STP reporting and superannuation.
• Perform bank reconciliations and maintain general ledger integrity with monthly balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Maintain job and project cost records, track costs against budgets and monitor labour, subcontractor and supplier spend.
• Assist in preparing monthly management accounts, project financial reports and cash‑flow tracking.
• Support BAS, payroll tax and other statutory reporting obligations and keep appropriate financial documentation.

Required profile

• Relevant accounting qualification or extensive experience; CPA/CA qualification is an advantage.
• Minimum 5 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, preferably in construction, infrastructure or project‑based environments.
• Strong understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, bank reconciliation and month‑end processes.
• Exposure to job costing or project cost tracking.
• High attention to detail, strong organisational skills and a reliable, methodical approach.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MYOB (Acumatica or AccountRight) or similar accounting software.
• Experience with job costing and project cost tracking.
• Knowledge of BAS and related statutory reporting.
