Academic Support Officer

About the role

The Academic Support Officer will work on the Oxford Street campus in Darlinghurst, providing hands‑on assistance to students throughout the trimester. You will collaborate with Course Coordinators and teaching staff to strengthen academic skills and confidence.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver engaging workshops on referencing, paraphrasing, academic writing, assessment analysis and generative AI use.
• Provide one‑to‑one support for students needing targeted academic assistance.
• Interpret assessment briefs, marking criteria and help students develop research and writing strategies.
• Identify at‑risk students, create study plans and monitor progress.
• Partner with teaching staff to pinpoint common skill gaps and tailor interventions.

Required profile

• Approachable, organised and confident working with diverse student cohorts.
• Master’s degree in Education, Education Administration or equivalent experience.
• Experience delivering academic skills workshops in higher education or VET settings.
• Understanding of academic writing, referencing, assessment literacy and academic integrity.

Required skills

• Facilitation and presentation skills for workshop delivery.
• Ability to identify individual student needs and provide practical support.
• Strong organisational abilities to manage recurring workshops and competing priorities.
