Academic (Level C‑E) in Communication/Network Engineering

About the role

RMIT University is seeking an outstanding academic in Communication/Network Engineering for a continuing full‑time position at the Melbourne CBD campus, with possible offshore teaching duties. The role involves teaching, research, industry engagement and academic leadership across a broad range of communication and networking topics.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, including curriculum development and assessment design.
• Lead and develop research projects, attract external funding, supervise higher degree candidates and build collaborative research networks.
• Design, develop and operate research testbeds and network test environments such as software‑defined radios, RFSoCs, ORAN and network security simulators.
• Contribute to academic governance, program improvement and strategic initiatives within the School of Engineering.

Required profile

• PhD in a related field or AQF‑equivalent with relevant industry experience.
• Demonstrated research track record in communication engineering, network engineering, network security, 6G, aerial/space communications or related areas.
• Experience coordinating large courses and delivering student‑centred learning.
• Ability to secure and manage research funding and lead collaborative research teams.

Required skills

• Software‑defined radios and RFSoC development.
• RF and millimetre‑wave system design.
• High‑speed signal processing and embedded system design.
• Network simulators, emulators and security simulators.
• Operation of network testbeds such as ORAN.
