Waste Services Coordinator

About the role

Colac Otway Shire Council is looking for an experienced waste management professional to lead its waste services. Reporting to the Manager Sustainable Environments, the Coordinator oversees kerbside waste collections, transfer stations, drop-off operations, resource recovery and waste reduction opportunities, and manages key contractor relationships so residents receive compliant, high-quality services. The position is Band 7 and operates on a hybrid model.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and review the Council's Resource Recovery and Waste Management Strategy and drive initiatives toward a circular economy.
• Oversee contracted waste services, attend and chair contract meetings, conduct site inspections and ensure compliance with safety, environmental standards and legislation.
• Manage the "GoodSort" waste and recycling app, improve waste monitoring dashboards and pursue innovative waste minimisation systems.
• Develop annual budgets, manage external grant funding and oversee projects from design and procurement to implementation.
• Plan and deliver waste education programs to reduce contamination and encourage sustainable resource use.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Waste Management, Contract Management, Sustainability, Engineering, Project Management, or extensive practical experience in a related field.
• Proven experience managing complex service contracts, including procurement, KPI monitoring and dispute resolution.
• Deep understanding of municipal waste management, kerbside collections, transfer stations and circular economy principles.
• Current Victorian driver licence.
