Vessel Master - Glass Bottom Boat Tours

About the role

Sailaway, part of Journey Beyond, offers daily reef tours from Port Douglas aboard state-of-the-art catamarans, with sites such as Mackay Coral Cay and the Low Isles. It is seeking a Vessel Master on a permanent part-time basis. The Vessel Master operates the vessel, ensures the safety of passengers and crew, runs Glass Bottom Boat tours, acts as safety lookout and coordinates the day's itinerary.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate daily activities, supervise vessel cleanliness and run regular safety drills
• Maintain safety equipment and fix defective machinery that could affect safety or operation
• Keep the vessel safe and efficient, communicate well with staff and complete logs and daily routines accurately
• Follow all policies, procedures and legislation to protect crew and passengers
• Deliver professional, friendly customer service

Required profile

• Knowledge of snorkelling procedures, reef interpretation and the history of the Low Isles
• Strong organisational and time management skills
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to stay calm and effective in all weather
• Physically fit and able to manage diverse groups of people
• Team player who leads by example and promotes safety protocols

Required skills

• Master 24m NC AMSA issued certificate AND MED 2 or Sailing Master Coastal NC and Coxswains Grade 1
• HLTAID011 Provide First Aid certification
• HLTAID015 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Oxygen Therapy certification
