Urban Planner

About the role

AECOM is seeking an Urban Planner to join its Urbanism & Planning team in Sydney. You will work alongside planners, designers and engineers on high‑impact infrastructure and development projects across NSW and beyond.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare planning assessments, strategic plans and high‑quality reports for major infrastructure, data centre, rail and renewable energy projects.
• Review plans and technical reports, support applications and approvals, and ensure compliance with statutory planning requirements.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver master‑planning, urban design and approval documentation on time and within budget.
• Build client relationships, contribute to fee proposals and identify future business opportunities.

Required profile

• Degree in Town Planning, Urban Planning or a related discipline.
• Approximately 2+ years of professional urban or environmental planning experience, preferably in a consultancy.
• Proven ability to work within multidisciplinary project teams and communicate clearly with clients and authorities.
• Flexible, solutions‑focused attitude with strong written and verbal communication skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
• Experience with GIS or other spatial analysis tools.
