Transport Officer – Deceased Persons

About the role

St John Ambulance Victoria is seeking dedicated Transport Officers to provide respectful transport services for deceased persons across the Melbourne metropolitan area and regional Victoria. You will work either alongside a crew member for collections or independently for repatriations, following a rotating roster of 8‑10 hour shifts.

Key responsibilities

• Collect deceased persons from places of death and transport them to designated facilities.
• Conduct planned repatriations to regional locations as required.
• Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to confidentiality standards.
• Follow occupational health and safety (OHS) and manual handling procedures.
• Collaborate with coroners, families, and other stakeholders with professionalism and empathy.

Required profile

• High level of resilience and ability to manage complex, sensitive situations.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and non‑verbal.
• Demonstrated experience working with deceased persons and interacting with families or related stakeholders.
• Understanding of OHS and manual handling best practices.
• Full driver’s licence with a safe driving record.
