Therapeutic Residential Care Worker – Youth

About the role

The Department of Communities is recruiting Therapeutic Residential Care Workers for Broome and Kununurra in the Kimberley region. The role works as part of a team to give group and individual therapeutic residential care to children and young people, helping them heal, connect, learn and prepare for adult life. The work follows the Sanctuary Model, which guides trauma-informed care.

Key responsibilities

• Work as part of a team to deliver group and individual therapeutic residential care to children and young people
• Assist in planning, developing and implementing activities for children and young people
• Work a rotating roster of morning, afternoon and awake night shifts, Monday to Sunday, in a 24/7 service

Required profile

• Genuine care and compassion, able to work in a multi-disciplinary team
• Resilient, patient, calm, non-judgmental and respectful of cultural differences
• Able to teach life skills and engage children positively in recreational activities
• Strong communication skills, quick adaptation to changing needs and ability to practice self-care
• Current West Australian 'C' or 'C-A' licence or equivalent (question Q1)

What we offer

• Pay of $79,604 - $85,350 pa pro rata, with 17.5% annual leave loading for fixed-term and permanent staff; casuals get an extra 25% loading
• District allowance for Broome or Kununurra depending on dependants

• 5 weeks annual leave including 1 week of shift work allowance, plus 1 week of North West Leave
• 10 days for public holidays and three days of public service holidays
