Test Engineer (APS5) - Brisbane City

About the role

A federal government client, a frontline service-delivery agency, is seeking Test Engineers to design and carry out testing that validates the design and behaviour of its systems and services. The role is APS5 level, with an estimated start date of 1 January 2027, a 12-month initial contract and possible extension up to 24 months. Work is hybrid, with onsite presence expected for the first 6 weeks, and the location is the capital city of a selected state.

Key responsibilities

• Execute assigned test cases on appropriate testing platforms and develop test plans, test cases, task cards and supporting test data under direction from the specifications.
• Analyse and report on test activities and results, escalating issues and risks to senior staff.
• Identify, manage and document defects and inconsistencies between requirements and design specifications.
• Contribute to team improvement, including team tools, process changes and test automation.
• Create test data in external software vendor environments and allocate work to team members according to issue complexity and staff capability.
• Provide advice and training to less experienced testers and advise external software vendors on testing and development.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ICT-related legislation, policy and processes and share it with colleagues.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, support business processes and assist with cost analysis where required.

Required profile

• APS5 equivalent experience; Australian citizenship and ability to obtain a baseline security clearance.
• ISTQB Certified Foundation Level Tester with knowledge of frameworks, legislation, policies, procedures and information management requirements, and of the agency's privacy, ethics, workplace health and safety and security protocols.
• Prior experience in government or a similar large-scale organisation preferred.
• Ability to write a one-page pitch addressing all criteria.
