Technology Support Specialist (Event AV) - HEW 5 & HEW 6
rmit · Melbourne
Job description
About the role
RMIT's End User Technology team in Information Technology Services offers multiple continuing opportunities for onsite, event-focused technology roles, primarily based at the Melbourne City campus. The two positions are the Senior Technology Support Specialist (HEW 6) and the Technology Support Specialist (HEW 5). They help deliver seamless conferences, lectures, presentations and executive events by providing reliable audiovisual and onsite technology support for presenters and event organisers.
Key responsibilities
- Set up, test, operate and pack down event audiovisual equipment, including sound, presentation, video conferencing and lighting systems.
- Monitor live events and troubleshoot audiovisual, computing, peripheral and connectivity issues.
- Guide users with varying technical knowledge and collaborate with event teams, technology specialists and vendors.
- Own incidents and service requests, keep stakeholders informed and escalate when needed.
- Support installations, workstation setups, relocations, proactive maintenance and technology lifecycle improvements.
- For HEW 6: provide technical expertise for complex, high-profile events including executive and VIP engagements, resolve complex or recurring issues, coordinate escalations and guide colleagues and stakeholders.
Required profile
- Practical experience in audiovisual, event technology, desktop support, end-user computing or a related environment; HEW 6 requires more extensive experience managing complex issues and supporting high-profile or VIP events.
- Relevant qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, audiovisual technology, event production or a related discipline is desirable; equivalent practical experience is also valued.
- Availability for rostered or split shifts within the 7:30 am to 8:30 pm service window, with occasional event support outside standard hours.
- Valid Victorian Working with Children Check, which must be maintained as a condition of employment.
Required skills
- Hands-on knowledge of audiovisual and meeting-room technology, including sound, microphones, audio mixing, displays and video conferencing.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and a calm, responsive approach to live-event issues.
- Customer-focused service and clear communication with presenters, stakeholders, colleagues, vendors, staff and students.
- Ability to prioritise in a busy environment, work independently and contribute to a collaborative team.
Applicants submit a resume, a brief cover letter giving an example of resolving a technical issue under time pressure, and confirm whether they want to be considered for HEW 5, HEW 6 or both. Applications close on 8 November 2026. The roles are onsite and not primarily remote or service-desk positions.
