Technical Team Lead

About the role

MECCA is looking for an experienced, hands‑on Technical Team Lead to head a web squad that powers a high‑traffic retail website. Reporting to the Technical Director, you will lead a small team of engineers while staying close to the code and the customer.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and build a culture of ownership and continuous learning within a squad of 3‑4 engineers.
• Contribute hands‑on to solution design, architecture and complex delivery, including code reviews and pair programming.
• Collaborate with Product Manager, Designer and QA to write clear requirements and technical designs.
• Run technical spikes, define code quality standards and improve CI/CD, automated testing and low‑risk release processes.
• Manage release risk, respond to production issues and drive improvements in performance, accessibility, SEO, security and reliability.
• Partner with Product, Architecture and Data teams to shape customer‑focused solutions.

Required profile

• People‑leadership experience with a track record of mentoring engineers.
• 8+ years of hands‑on engineering building production‑grade web applications and at least 3 years in a technical leadership role.
• Strong customer‑first mindset, pragmatic problem‑solving and ability to navigate fast‑paced, complex environments.

Required skills

• JavaScript and TypeScript, preferably with Next.js, React and GraphQL (Apollo).
• Experience designing and developing backend services and APIs (REST and/or GraphQL) and working with relational or NoSQL databases.
• Solid system‑design skills, CI/CD, Git workflows and automated testing (unit, integration, E2E).
• Cloud‑native experience, preferably AWS, including serverless, containers and infrastructure‑as‑code.
• Knowledge of web performance, accessibility and SEO principles.
• Familiarity with AI‑assisted development.NET/C# backends, and mobile/React Native integrations is a plus.
