Junior Mobile Developer (React Native)

About the role

MECCA is looking for a Junior Mobile Developer to join its Digital team and help build the React Native app used by customers on iOS and Android. This is not a purely task-based role: you will contribute to features in the live app alongside experienced engineers, taking ownership of clearly scoped work from implementation and testing through to release.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain the mobile app using React Native
• Turn Figma designs into polished, responsive experiences
• Work on features such as authentication, experimentation, analytics and push notifications
• Contribute to automated testing across unit, integration and ideally E2E frameworks
• Collaborate with designers and the tech lead to turn ideas into working product
• Help investigate production issues and implement and test fixes, with support from experienced engineers
• Use AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor or Codex in daily work, and review and test the code they generate

Required profile

• Around 1-2 years of hands-on commercial experience with React Native and TypeScript
• Foundational knowledge of responsive layouts, accessibility, animations and mobile performance, with a willingness to develop these skills
• Clear communication, a collaborative approach and a willingness to ask questions and seek feedback
• Four days per week in the Richmond office; the role involves close collaboration with the team

Required skills

• Familiarity with building reusable UI components and component libraries or design systems
• Understanding of iOS and Android fundamentals, including platform differences and app lifecycles
• Basic understanding of client versus server state, and exposure to Zustand or similar (Redux, MobX)
• Experience integrating with REST or GraphQL APIs, including loading states, errors and async data
• Some experience writing automated tests, ideally with Jest or React Native Testing Library
• Familiarity with Git, code reviews and Agile ways of working
• Nice to have: TDD and shift-left testing, mobile E2E tools such as Maestro, Detox or Appium, CI/CD pipelines, feature flags, App Store and Google Play releases, and crash reporting, logging and monitoring tools
