Technical Director – Mechanical Engineering (Buildings)

About the role

AECOM is seeking a Technical Director for Mechanical Engineering within its Building Engineering team in Sydney. The role provides strategic leadership on multidisciplinary projects, drives technical excellence, and expands client relationships across key sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Lead technical delivery on major building services projects, ensuring commercial performance and client satisfaction.
• Set design direction, conduct high‑level reviews, and enforce best‑practice standards for all mechanical deliverables.
• Mentor and develop engineering talent, creating clear career pathways within the team.
• Contribute to business growth through work‑winning, market engagement and strengthening AECOM’s regional reputation.

Required profile

• Chartered Engineer with RPEQ/RPEV registration or equivalent professional accreditation.
• Minimum 18 years of experience in building services consultancy or mechanical contracting.
• Proven record of delivering complex projects and maintaining strong client relationships.
• Australian citizenship (defence clearance highly regarded).

Required skills

• Mechanical design and engineering for building services.
• Experience with building services standards and regulations.
• Technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams.
