Team Leader – Design & Drafting, Rail & Metro

About the role

SMEC is seeking an experienced Team Leader to head its Design & Drafting function for rail and metro projects in Brisbane. You will guide a multidisciplinary team, ensure high‑quality deliverables, and support business development for a leading engineering consultancy.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical and leadership guidance across the team’s portfolio of rail and metro projects.
• Contribute to project management and review activities to meet timeliness and quality targets.
• Manage team performance, resourcing, retention and professional development.
• Assist in shaping the group business plan and execute the team’s components.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering or an Advanced Diploma.
• Minimum 12 + years of industry experience in design or drafting for rail transport infrastructure.
• Strong communication skills and ability to train junior staff.
• Proven track record of delivering projects and building client relationships.
