TAFE Teacher - Automotive Light

About the role

CQUniversity Mackay is recruiting a permanent, full-time VET teacher for its School of Trades to train apprentices in the Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology. The role suits a qualified tradesperson with hands-on experience in light vehicle mechanical technology who wants to share their expertise in the classroom and workshop. Teaching experience is not required; a fully funded TAE40122 qualification is provided during employment.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver hands-on training and share practical industry knowledge with apprentices in the workshop and classroom.
• Assess and mark students within the VET workload model, including preparation and marking time.
• Mentor apprentices and guide learners in both workshop and classroom settings.

Required profile

• Minimum qualification in Automotive Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology; dual-trade candidates, especially with Auto Electrical or another complementary trade, are highly regarded.
• Current hands-on industry experience in electrical installation, maintenance, fault finding, testing, commissioning or industrial environments.
• Interest in mentoring apprentices and sharing knowledge.
• Willingness to work in a structured setting with assessment, documentation and student support; no teaching experience needed.
• Full right to work in Australia; visa sponsorship is not available.
• Willingness to relocate to the Mackay region (relocation support available).

What we offer

• Salary of $107,697 per year (from $56.93 per hour) plus 17% superannuation.
• 5.4 weeks annual leave and a paid Christmas/New Year break.
• Fully funded TAE40122 teaching qualification provided.
• 36.25 hours per week, with teaching time typically 22 hours and flexible start and finish times.
• Relocation assistance to the Mackay region.
