Systems Safety Engineer

About the role

The Systems Safety Engineer will lead the systems safety assurance programme for a Defence sustainment contract, ensuring compliance with Defence standards and engineering delegations. This permanent, full‑time position is based in Sydney and requires a Baseline security clearance.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the System Safety Program, including Safety Case Reports.
• Direct safety assurance activities in line with the In‑Service Safety Program (ISSP).
• Review and create safety cases and assessments for new and existing capabilities.
• Support engineering change activities by integrating system safety design.
• Provide risk‑based advice and recommendations to senior engineering leadership.

Required profile

• Qualified engineer with 10+ years’ experience in systems safety within Defence or high‑risk industries.
• Proven ability to lead system safety programmes and deliver safety cases and assessments.
• Strong knowledge of safety engineering standards and Defence regulatory frameworks.
• Eligibility for ITAR clearance and Chartered Engineer status.
