System Engineer – Unix (6‑month Fixed‑Term)

About the role

Leidos Australia is seeking a Unix Systems Engineer on a 6‑month fixed‑term contract to design, build and support critical Unix/Linux infrastructure across on‑premises, hybrid and cloud environments.

Key responsibilities

• Design, configure, test and transition Unix/Linux solutions, ensuring alignment with architecture, security and operational standards.
• Support major projects such as platform upgrades, migrations, modernisation programmes and cloud adoption initiatives.
• Collaborate with architects, project managers, application, database, network, storage and cybersecurity teams to deliver secure, resilient infrastructure.
• Drive automation using scripting, Infrastructure as Code and modern engineering practices to improve consistency and efficiency.

Required profile

• Experienced Unix/Linux Systems or Infrastructure Engineer with enterprise‑scale exposure.
• Strong practical approach to engineering, operational excellence and ability to translate technical requirements into reliable solutions.
• Australian citizenship and NV‑1 security clearance.

Required skills

• Enterprise Unix/Linux platforms: IBM AIX, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SUSE Linux, Solaris, HP‑UX.
• Shell scripting and automation (Ansible, Terraform preferred).
• Knowledge of storage, networking and services (LVM, SAN/NAS, TCP/IP, DNS, SSH, NFS).
• Security hardening, vulnerability remediation, backup/recovery and high‑availability concepts.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Oracle Cloud) and container technologies (Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines).
• Python scripting for infrastructure automation.
