System Administrator – Linux (RHEL) – Defence

About the role

Profectus is looking for an experienced Linux Systems Administrator to design, configure, document, operate and support Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments for Defence. This hands‑on position works in a highly secure setting where reliability, security and performance are critical.

Key responsibilities

• Deploy, support and maintain RHEL components across physical and virtual infrastructure.
• Manage and document RHEL system configurations to defined baselines.
• Administer virtualization tools such as VMware and configure virtual machines for critical applications.
• Troubleshoot complex faults and collaborate with peer teams to achieve resolution.
• Contribute technical designs and documentation to knowledge repositories and policy development.
• Apply ITIL Service Management principles, participate in Change Advisory Boards and use service‑management tools for tasking and scheduling.
• Provide platform deployment and out‑of‑hours support, including occasional shift work.
• Handle classified information in line with Commonwealth Defence Security Principles and Australian Government ISM.

Required profile

• RHCSA certification or a relevant tertiary/vocational qualification.
• 5+ years of systems administration experience, preferably within Defence or a similar high‑security environment.
• Unrestricted ability to deploy to Australian Defence Force installations.
• Strong communication skills with technical peers and IT leadership.
• Ability to work independently and as part of integrated Defence teams.
