Suicide Prevention Information Officer (APS 6)

About the role

The APS 6 Suicide Prevention Information Officer will support the development and implementation of suicide prevention knowledge, initiatives and programs across the Australian Defence. Working within the Mental Health & Wellbeing Branch, the officer will collaborate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to advance the Defence suicide prevention agenda.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to the ADF Suicide Review Process and maintain the Defence Suicide Database.
• Develop enterprise‑wide suicide prevention reform recommendations, briefs and communication products.
• Assist in the evaluation of suicide prevention initiatives and programmes.
• Support policy development and framework creation in response to the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide.
• Engage with Defence groups, the Inspector‑General, healthcare providers, government agencies, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, research institutions and universities to coordinate suicide prevention objectives.

Required profile

• Health professional with a background in suicide prevention, case conceptualisation and applied research methodologies.
• Ability to translate suicide prevention research into practical interventions.
• Experience compiling, analysing and interpreting suicide‑related data to inform recommendations.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills across public‑sector and community organisations.
• Proficiency in preparing evidence‑based briefings, proposals and reports.
