Strategic Communications Manager

About the role

A major Australian federal government department shaping foreign, trade and development policy is recruiting a Strategic Communications Manager through a labour-hire provider. You will lead integrated communications strategies, campaigns and content that build stakeholder confidence and strengthen reputation, working with internal teams and stakeholders across government.

Key responsibilities

• Lead integrated communications strategies and campaigns that build awareness, engagement and reputation
• Advise senior executives and project leaders on communications, manage risks and identify opportunities
• Turn complex technical and policy information into clear narratives for diverse audiences
• Lead communications for major announcements, stakeholder engagements and key project milestones
• Manage emerging communications risks and issues, giving timely advice and responses
• Build relationships with senior stakeholders, government agencies, partners and media
• Produce media releases, speeches, digital content, social media and briefing materials
• Manage external communications providers and use media, audience and performance insights to improve outcomes

Required profile

• Strong writing expertise and knowledge or interest of Australia's foreign policy objectives and engagement in the Pacific region
• Experience providing strategic communication advice at a senior level, ideally within government
• Ability to lead and collaborate in a high-pressure environment
• Active Negative Vetting 1 clearance is essential

• Excellent collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate
• Self-directed, able to turn complex analysis into impactful strategies and products

What we offer

• Rate of $85-$100 per hour plus superannuation
• 12-month labour-hire contract with a 12-month extension option
