Station Hand (Leading Hand) - 2027 Season

About the role

A family-owned pastoral station with over 35 years of experience is seeking a Leading Station Hand for the 2027 season. The station, which includes the Humber River Outstation, is located 400 km west of Katherine, NT, and manages 3,800 km2 and over 33,000 cattle, including around 13,000 breeders.

Key responsibilities

• Set daily priorities with the Station Manager or Head Stockperson
• Lead by example and guide less-experienced station hands
• Report progress, livestock concerns and maintenance issues
• Promote safe work, low-stress handling and animal welfare
• Muster cattle by horse, motorbike or both
• Draft, brand and process cattle in the yards
• Feed and care for livestock
• Perform general property maintenance and repairs

Required profile

• Proven cattle-station experience and sound stockmanship
• Clear communication and ability to work independently
• Collaborative, positive attitude and willingness to learn
• Strong work ethic and resilience in remote conditions
• Physical capacity for station duties and extended hours

Required skills

• Riding horses and motorbikes is an advantage
• Mechanical, fencing or machinery skills are advantageous
