About the role

The State Library of Queensland, based at South Bank, preserves Queensland's documentary memory, provides free access to knowledge and supports public libraries and Indigenous Knowledge Centres across the state. Its profile is expected to grow as Brisbane approaches the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Library Board of Queensland is seeking a State Librarian and Chief Executive Officer to lead the organisation into its next chapter.

This statutory executive role reports to the Board and works closely with the Minister, government, local councils and cultural partners. It leads a high-performing organisation and executive team of seven.

• Set strategic direction and lead cultural renewal
• Drive innovation in AI and digital access
• Grow audiences and strengthen partnerships
• Diversify revenue
• Position the State Library as a leading national institution with an international outlook

Required profile

• Significant experience leading a large, complex and publicly accountable organisation
• Strong capability in strategy, transformation, stakeholder engagement, financial stewardship, innovation and executive leadership
• Library and information management expertise or relevant tertiary qualifications are highly regarded; outstanding leaders from adjacent sectors are also encouraged to apply
