Staff Specialist in Transplant Surgery (Renal)

About the role

The Newcastle Transplant Unit at John Hunter Hospital is seeking an experienced and motivated Transplant Surgeon for a permanent part-time position (0.4 FTE). The unit runs a well-established renal transplant program offering live donor and deceased donor renal transplants to patients across Hunter New England and northern NSW. The role contributes to service development, teaching, research and clinical governance.

Key responsibilities

• Provide specialist transplant surgical services, including inpatient, outpatient and on-call care
• Support the growth and sustainability of the service
• Depending on experience and training, take part in laparoscopic donor nephrectomy, multi-organ procurement, dialysis access surgery and general surgical issues in transplant recipients

Required profile

• Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist, or eligible through an overseas-trained specialist pathway
• FRACS (General Surgery, Urology or Vascular Surgery) or equivalent
• Experience in transplant surgery with a commitment to patient-centred care
• Passion for teaching, research, quality improvement and multidisciplinary collaboration
