Staff Software Engineer - Mobile

About the role

The Money Movement team builds and evolves payment experiences within the CommBank app, serving millions of customers. As a Staff Software Engineer – Mobile you will provide senior technical leadership, shape architecture and drive the evolution of mobile payment capabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Set and champion the strategic technical direction for Android, including architecture, platform evolution, framework upgrades and migration pathways.
• Own full‑cycle engineering delivery from ideation and design through build, testing, release and production support.
• Modernise customer payment experiences and evolve legacy mobile components toward reusable, scalable solutions.
• Partner with Product, Design, Security, backend and engineering teams to deliver secure, reliable and consistent customer journeys.
• Champion engineering practices across architecture, automated testing, CI/CD, performance, security and observability.
• Provide hands‑on technical leadership, mentor engineers and uplift Android capability across the wider mobile engineering community.

Required profile

• Experienced Android engineer with deep technical expertise and the ability to influence architecture, engineering practices and delivery outcomes.
• Collaborative mindset, ownership mentality and a passion for helping other engineers grow.

Required skills

• Kotlin, Android SDK and Jetpack Compose
• Mobile architecture patterns such as MVVM, MVI, Clean Architecture and modular design
• Dependency injection, object‑oriented design, SOLID principles and common design patterns
• Automated testing, continuous delivery, production observability
• Integration with REST or GraphQL APIs and experience with cloud services like AWS
