Staff Mechanical Product Engineer – Production

About the role

The Staff Mechanical Product Engineer provides primary design engineering support on the production floor, linking design intent with manufacturing execution across multiple sites. This senior individual contributor role requires deep technical judgement and the ability to drive systemic improvements in a fast‑paced defense production environment.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the main design engineering contact for assigned programs, handling MRB actions, resolving process blockers, and providing rapid engineering support to Production, Quality, and Test teams.
• Perform mechanical design analyses (stress, fatigue, thermal, tolerance stack‑up) and use 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks, NX, CATIA) to model rework paths and generate engineering drawings.
• Develop and maintain Standard Repair Manuals and disposition guides, support new site ramp‑ups, and collaborate on work instructions, tooling validation, and First Article Inspection activities.
• Identify and drive process and tooling improvements, enhance PLM workflows, and create scalable frameworks for multi‑site production.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Manufacturing Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing or production environment, with hands‑on floor support.
• Strong knowledge of MRB processes, non‑conformance management, AS9100/ISO 9001 quality systems, and PLM/configuration management.
• Ability to obtain an Australian Security Clearance.

Required skills

• Proficiency with 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks, NX, or CATIA.
• Mechanical design analysis skills including structural stress, fatigue life, thermal, and tolerance stack‑up calculations.
• Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes: metals, composites, adhesive bonding, welding, brazing, surface treatments.
• Experience with PLM tools, configuration management, and engineering change order (ECO) processes.
