Staff Mechanical Product Engineer (Platform)
Anduril Industries · Sydney
Job description
About the role
The Staff Mechanical Product Engineer will be the primary design engineering presence on the production floor, bridging design intent and production execution for Anduril's platform systems. This senior individual contributor role requires deep technical judgement, autonomy in a fast‑paced environment, and the ability to influence both design and manufacturing teams.
Key responsibilities
- Serve as the main design engineering contact on the production floor, representing design authority at Material Review Board (MRB) meetings and minimizing production hold time.
- Provide rapid‑response engineering support, root‑cause analysis, and disposition decisions (use‑as‑is, rework, scrap) for part and sub‑assembly non‑conformances.
- Translate design intent into production‑executable work across multiple product versions and sites, supporting new site ramp‑ups and engineering change implementation.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering on work instructions, tooling validation, First Article Inspection, and resolve EBOM discrepancies.
- Identify systemic design issues, lead corrective action implementation, and feed production observations back into platform mechanical design.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Manufacturing Engineering or related field.
- 10+ years of engineering experience in manufacturing/production, with at least 4 years in defense, aerospace or automotive.
- Hands‑on experience supporting a production floor and strong understanding of MRB processes and ISO 9001 quality systems.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an Australian Government security clearance.
Required skills
- Mechanical design and analysis (hand calculations, tolerance analysis, FEA).
- Proficiency with GD&T, engineering drawings (AS 1100, ASME Y14.5).
- Experience with NX, FEMAP, Teamcenter or similar CAD/FEA/PLM tools.
- Knowledge of configuration management, engineering change order (ECO) processes, and PLM workflows.
- Familiarity with welding, machining, sheet metal, injection moulding, composites or additive manufacturing.
