Special Needs Education Assistant

About the role

Cable Beach Primary School is building a pool of Special Needs Education Assistants to support students with diagnosed disabilities such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Global Developmental Delay and Intellectual Disability. The role involves providing direct assistance, managing challenging behaviours and fostering an inclusive learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist students with challenging behaviours using positive reinforcement and individualized strategies.
• Collaborate with teachers to deliver high‑quality, student‑focused learning programs.
• Work alongside NDIS and external therapy providers to align home and school goals.
• Facilitate communication for non‑verbal students using Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) tools.
• Support the development of independence, emotional regulation and social skills.

Required profile

• Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
• Initiative and ability to work collaboratively in a team.
• Experience or interest in supporting students with special needs.
• Commitment to creating a safe, respectful and inclusive classroom environment.

Required skills

• Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) proficiency.
