About the role
The Queensland Law Society is seeking a full‑time Solicitor to join its Licensing team within the Regulation Division. The role supports the Society’s regulatory functions under the Legal Profession Act 2007, managing practising‑certificate matters and assessing solicitor suitability.
Key responsibilities
- Investigate and assess matters affecting a practitioner’s suitability for a practising certificate, analysing evidence and forming balanced recommendations.
- Prepare high‑quality submissions and recommendations for Council and its delegates.
- Manage a caseload of complex, sensitive, confidential regulatory matters including show‑cause events, criminal notifications, trust‑account issues and health assessments.
- Provide clear legal advice on administrative decision‑making, statutory interpretation and occupational regulation.
- Build effective relationships with internal teams, regulators, law‑enforcement agencies and industry bodies to support regulatory functions.
Required profile
- Tertiary qualification in law with a current practising certificate or eligibility for an unrestricted practising certificate.
- Minimum 2 years post‑admission experience managing complex legal matters and delivering clear advice.
- Experience in litigation or dispute resolution with strong evidence‑assessment and persuasive submission skills.
- Exposure to administrative law or regulatory environments (highly regarded).
- Strong analytical, organisational and interpersonal abilities, including the capacity to interpret legislation and manage competing priorities.
