Software Engineering Manager, Internet Edge Services

About the role

AWS Infrastructure Services builds, plans, delivers and operates the global infrastructure that keeps the cloud running. The Internet Edge Services (IES) organization optimizes global internet connectivity through software solutions, and is building a software-defined, programmable Border Network. As Software Engineering Manager, you will lead the team that builds, enhances and operates the software-defined controllers, the intelligent control plane powering Amazon's software-defined network at the internet edge. You will work closely with engineering teams across the USA and Australia.

Key responsibilities

• Lead an established high-performing team to identify opportunities and deliver software-defined traffic engineering solutions for AWS's internet edge networks.
• Manage sprint planning for in-flight projects and prepare project reports for Director-level review.
• Review high-level solution designs and coordinate their review with key stakeholders.
• Lead reviews of operational metrics to improve the security, availability and effectiveness of the services you own.
• Drive process and software improvements across the area.
• Ensure software engineers have a clear list of goals and projects, and handle escalations from Director level down.

Required profile

• 3+ years of engineering team management experience.
• 7+ years of engineering experience.
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams.
• Preferred: experience communicating with users, technical teams and senior leadership to gather requirements and describe product features, designs and strategy.
• Preferred: experience recruiting, hiring, mentoring and coaching teams of software engineers.

Required skills

• Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns across the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle.
• Coding standards, code reviews, source control management and build processes.
• Testing, certification and live site operations.
