Software Engineer – Secure Applications (APS6 Equivalent)

About the role

Babylon Data is looking for experienced Software Engineers to join a critical national security organisation in Canberra. You will design, develop, integrate and support secure software solutions within highly classified environments, working in Agile delivery teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain secure software applications.
• Build complex solutions using modern languages and frameworks.
• Integrate Commercial Off‑The‑Shelf (COTS) and Government Off‑The‑Shelf (GOTS) software.
• Automate infrastructure, testing and deployment pipelines.
• Create and manage operational databases.
• Monitor applications, troubleshoot production issues and provide technical support.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, reviews and retrospectives.
• Conduct peer code reviews and promote engineering best practices.

Required profile

• Proven experience in software development within secure or highly regulated environments.
• Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
• Ability to translate logical designs into production‑ready code.
• Strong problem‑solving skills for complex software and infrastructure issues.

What we offer

• Daily rate guide: $1,050–$1,300 (AUD) per day.
• 12‑month initial contract with two optional 12‑month extensions.
