Software Engineer - Machine Learning

About the role

REA Group is hiring a permanent Software Engineer - Machine Learning for its Data Science & Analytics team, which builds, deploys and operates statistical, machine learning and AI models for PropTrack, Australia's leading source of property insights and digital valuation solutions. The team works closely with Core Property Data, Mortgage Solutions, Consumer AI, Consumer Product & Experience, Commercial and Mortgage Choice. The role is based in Sydney.

Key responsibilities

• Design, code, test and deploy machine learning pipelines using Python, SQL, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), AWS and GCP.
• Build AI products using Generative AI, LLMs and traditional machine learning techniques.
• Prototype proofs of concept with senior engineers to explore new ideas and assess feasibility.
• Support data processes through ad-hoc analysis, automated dashboards and self-service reporting tools.
• Analyse data coverage and quality statistics across internal and external datasets.
• Follow agile practices such as test-driven development, continuous delivery and pair programming.
• Share responsibility for the operation of the software built, supporting a "you build it, you run it" approach.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics or a similar discipline.
• Ability to code; specific languages can be learned on the job.
• In-depth knowledge of the machine learning model lifecycle.
• Ability to communicate and collaborate with business stakeholders.

Required skills

• Programming in SQL, Python, R, C# or similar.
• ML libraries such as XGBoost, LightGBM, Scikit-learn, PyTorch, Keras, Hugging Face models, Transformers, FastAPI or Flask.
• Data cleaning, analysis and interpretation of large datasets.
• Basic understanding of cloud providers such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud Platform.
