Software Engineer – Financial Platform Issuing

About the role

Block is looking for a Software Engineer to join the Financial Platform Issuing team, which powers card issuance, transaction processing and dispute handling for Cash App, Square Card and future Block products. You will design, build and operate high‑scale services that enable millions of customers to spend money safely and instantly.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, ship and maintain features across card issuance, transaction processing and disputes.
• Write high‑quality, well‑tested code and participate in design and code reviews.
• Implement systems within a microservice and event‑driven architecture, ensuring reliability and correctness for financial transactions.
• Participate in operational ownership of tier‑0 financial systems, including on‑call, incident response and post‑mortems.
• Leverage AI‑powered developer tools to improve development velocity and quality while applying sound judgment.

Required profile

• 3+ years of software development experience delivering end‑to‑end features.
• Experience building and maintaining production systems at scale.
• Strong problem‑solving mindset with a drive to identify and fix system flaws.
• Growth mindset, ability to handle ambiguous problems, and strong communication skills.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or related field.
