Site Safety Officer – Warehouse Automation

About the role

Dematic is looking for an experienced Site Safety Officer to support a large-scale automated warehousing and distribution centre project for a global FMCG client. The role is full-time and based on site in Tarneit, Melbourne, on a 12 to 18 month fixed-term contract with the possibility of transitioning to a permanent role. Reporting to the Project Safety Manager, you will lead day-to-day WHSE implementation and work with project managers, site supervisors, engineers, subcontractors and principal contractors.

Key responsibilities

• Provide WHSE advisory support across all project activities and champion a proactive safety culture on site
• Conduct site inspections, safety observations, audits and risk assessments
• Facilitate site inductions, toolbox talks and pre-start meetings
• Review and support Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), procedures and permits
• Investigate incidents and support corrective and preventative actions
• Help implement and improve the Site Safety Management Plan, and maintain safety reporting, hazard and risk registers
• Support the safe onboarding of subcontractors and liaise with builders, principal contractors and client representatives
• Take part in site safety committees and continuous improvement initiatives

Required profile

• Degree or diploma in Health & Safety, WHS, OHS or a related discipline
• At least 5 years of experience in a site-based safety position
• Experience in construction, industrial, manufacturing, commercial or fit-out projects, and exposure to large projects with multiple contractors
• Experience conducting WHSE audits, inspections and incident investigations
• White Card and an Australian driver's licence

Required skills

• Sound knowledge of WHS legislation, risk management and safety management systems
• Ability to influence safe behaviour and engage stakeholders
• Experience in automation, industrial equipment, manufacturing, commissioning or similar environments
• Knowledge of Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), isolation processes and electrical safety
