Shotfirer and MMU Operator - Coal Operations

About the role

Orica is recruiting an experienced Shotfirer and MMU Operator for one of its large coal operations teams in the North Bowen Basin. You will guide and supervise the blast crew while loading, tying and firing large shots, and operate the MMU to pump explosive into pre-drilled blast holes. The role is drive-in drive-out (DIDO), mostly on 7 days on/7 days off rosters, with camp facilities provided.

Key responsibilities

• Provide blasting knowledge, direction and advice to blast crews and stakeholders
• Manage magazine, loading, tying and firing of blasts according to drill and blast designs
• Train and mentor new team members
• Operate the MMU vehicle and other blasting plant and machinery
• Assist with preventative maintenance
• Deliver explosive products down pre-drilled blast holes on bench
• Handle daily administration and customer interactions

Required profile

• Qualified Shotfirer with experience operating as a full shotfirer
• QLD Shotfirers Licence and current QLD Explosives Security Clearance
• Authorised iKon Shotfirer, or prior experience with iKon systems
• Knowledge of explosives storage regulations and blasting procedures
• For MMU Operators: experience with an MMU or similar blast delivery vehicle, or a current HR licence
• Impeccable safety record and strong safety attitude
