Shore Based Engineer - Shipwright

About the role

Cruise Whitsundays, the largest marine-based tour and transport provider in the Whitsundays, is looking for a full-time Shore Based Engineer - Shipwright to join its Shore Based Maintenance Team. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager Operations, the shipwright helps maintain vessels, pontoons and vehicles, repairing vessel and pontoon structures and installing equipment such as masts, frames, decking, fittings, machines, shafts and safety gear. The role uses boat-building materials such as fibreglass.

Key responsibilities

• Perform fabrication work in line with scheduled maintenance and rectification works
• Carry out general shipwright repairs to vessel fabric and structure
• Plan proactively the works needed to maintain and improve vessel internal and external fabric
• Maintain HELM work orders accurately through to completion and sign off
• Follow SOPS, Marine Memos, operating procedures and WHS requirements
• Work autonomously and adapt to change

Required profile

• Experience in high-speed vessels and their presentation requirements
• Strong marine knowledge and installation skills
• Experience conducting risk assessments and applying practical safety measures
• Ability to manage time and priorities to meet deadlines, with strong written and verbal communication
• Comfortable working outdoors in all weather and in a fast-paced environment

Required skills

• Boat building and general shipwright repair tasks
• Intermediate computer literacy, including tablets, and experience with maintenance management software and data entry
• Open manual driver's licence
• HLTAID011 First Aid and CPR certification
• Working at heights and confined spaces (desirable)
• Forklift licence (desirable)
