Senior Track & Civil Design Engineer

About the role

Metro Trains Melbourne is seeking a full‑time Senior Track & Civil Design Engineer to join its high‑performing engineering team at the Docklands head office. The role focuses on delivering design activities for rail renewal projects, ensuring compliance with Metro’s engineering principles, standards and operational requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of Track & Civil design outputs, including drawings, design reports, calculations and assurance documentation.
• Check and approve designs as an MTM‑approved SOC, applying infrastructure standards and system specifications.
• Identify non‑conformances, recommend waivers and support the Track & Civil Design Review Manager.
• Provide technical advice to internal teams and external parties, and participate in Safety‑in‑Design, risk assessments and peer reviews.
• Assist with Management of Change and Engineering Change processes.

Required profile

• Tertiary engineering qualification meeting Engineers Australia membership eligibility or equivalent industry‑validated qualification.
• Registered Professional Engineer of Victoria (RPEV) accreditation.
• Proven experience using design software and drafting tools, specifically Bentley MicroStation.
• Demonstrated ability to apply structured risk management across engineering activities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and a commitment to rail safety and OHS procedures.
