Senior Testing and Commissioning Engineer
Megavar · Hobart
Job description
About the role
Megavar is a specialist high voltage engineering firm delivering testing and commissioning, primary and secondary design and substation maintenance for network businesses, generators and renewable energy developers across Australia. It is looking for a Senior Testing and Commissioning Engineer to lead primary and secondary commissioning on transmission and distribution substations, BESS and renewable energy projects across Australia, running test teams on site and taking commissioning programmes through to energisation.
Key responsibilities
- Lead primary and secondary commissioning of transmission and distribution substations, BESS and renewable energy projects across Australia.
- Test and validate protection, control and SCADA systems against design specifications, Australian standards and client requirements, mainly using Omicron test equipment.
- Lead test teams on site and manage commissioning programmes end to end.
- Fault-find and resolve technical issues during commissioning, working with design teams and clients to close them out.
- Prepare and review commissioning documentation: test plans, test records, ITPs and commissioning reports.
- Liaise directly with clients, contractors and network operators on technical issues and problem resolution.
- Mentor less experienced commissioning engineers.
Required profile
- Degree or diploma in electrical or power engineering, or a related discipline.
- At least 5 years' hands-on experience commissioning HV electrical systems: substations, protection and control, renewables or BESS.
- Demonstrated experience leading commissioning on transmission or renewable energy projects.
- Strong understanding of protection and control systems, power systems and the relevant Australian standards.
- Willingness to travel and work at project sites across Australia.
- Current driver's licence.
Required skills
- Proficiency with secondary injection test sets and diagnostic equipment; Omicron experience is well regarded.
- Ability to keep test records, documentation and deadlines tight on client-facing work.
What we offer
- Real site responsibility and direct client contact, without the layers of a large multidisciplinary firm.
- A varied caseload across transmission, distribution, BESS and renewables projects for clients such as ElectraNet, TasNetworks, Downer, Zinfra, Acciona, Vestas and Goldwind.
- Structured support toward Chartered Engineer / CPEng status.
- Flexible working arrangements, based in one of the Hobart, Launceston, Adelaide or Newcastle offices, within a close-knit team across five offices.
- Relocation assistance for the right candidate moving interstate.
- An attractive salary package benchmarked to experience, with opportunities for progression.
To apply, candidates upload their resume and answer the employer questions about legal entitlement to work in Australia, current state of residence, how they heard about Megavar, notice period and any visa restrictions.
